Locum Consultant Youth Psychiatrist - Part time - Geelong

Regional Victoria’s award winning health service located in Geelong – a picturesque city on Corio Bay with the city of Melbourne being just 45 minutes away by road - has a vacancy for a Consultant Youth Psychiatrist 2.5 days per week (35 hours/fortnight plus occasional on-call) to work with the JIGSAW Young Person’s Mental Health Service.

The post is based at the JIGSAW Young Person’s Mental Health Service in Geelong’s CBD, with responsibility for youth inpatients in the Swanston Centre at the Geelong Hospital, and the PARC unit in Belmont. JISAW is part of the headspace initiative in Geelong.

The position would suit a passionate and committed psychiatrist who would like to experience a period of working in the beautiful Bellarine Peninsula in Victoria, supporting an active and enthusiastic youth mental health team.

The psychiatrist helps lead an integrated (inpatient and community) youth mental health team providing multidisciplinary mental health care for young people aged from 16-25 years of age.

The team provides mental health crisis management, intake assessments of new patients, and case management, together with subacute and acute inpatient care. The consultant is supported by a registrar (College Trainee). The wider JIGSAW team includes four consultants and four registrars along with a team of qualified and experienced youth case managers.

Barwon Health Mental Health Services has a 32-bed acute inpatient unit and a 6-bed PARC facility.

You must hold the FRANZCP or MRCPsych (UK) and be accreditable as a supervisor by the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists, and be already registered for general or specialist medical registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency. Applicants who do not fulfill these criteria will not be considered.

Rate of pay is as per the Victorian AMA Heads of Agreement 2009.
